2008 / 2009 Youth Basketball Program

The Lompoc Parks and Recreation is entering its 28th year of Youth Basketball, offering five divisions with athletes ages 4 yrs old through 2nd grade coed teams, and 3rd – 8th grade girls and this year will offer boys leagues for the first time. The season begins late October for the youngest athletes and November for the upper divisions, ending the season off in mid – February.

The league originated in 1981 when Vince Elizondo, (Director of Parks and Recreation Department) led efforts to recruit and train volunteer coaches, officials and scorekeepers as a foundation for a successful program. Since then, the league has grown to well over 400 participants in the program. Without the many coaches, officials, scorekeepers, sponsors and of course our parents and basketball fans this program would not be what it is today.

Our goal for the Youth Basketball program is to allow a safe, fun and affordable opportunity for all youth to participate. Local businesses throughout the community have played a vital role on keeping the registration cost affordable for all families. The team names that are reported weekly in the Lompoc Record are those businesses that have donated in many different ways and deserve your THANK YOU! Please support them, for they have supported Youth Programs in the community.

Registrations will be taken till September 27, 2008 at the Anderson Recreation Center located at 125 W. Walnut, Lompoc. For more information, please contact Mario Guerrero Jr. Recreation Manager at 875-8095.

NEW!!! – Boys & Girls Lompoc Youth Basketball Leagues
This league is a recreational and learning league involving teams from the Lompoc Valley and VAFB. Boys & girls from 3rd – 8th Grade will learn to play basketball and compete with other kids their own age. This is not a COED League!! Each player receives a team shirt and an award at the end of the season. Practice and games will be during the week and on Saturdays. All registrations will be taken at the Anderson Recreation Center.

Ages:	Little Dribblers 3rd & 4th Grade Junior Division 5th & 6th Grade Senior Division 7th & 8th Grade

Basketball -Little Stars/ Tiny Hoops – Coed Leagues
This league emphasizes learning rather than competition. Boys and girls are taught the basic fundamentals of basketball. Each child receives a T-shirt and an award at the end of the season. Practice and games will be held during the week and on Saturdays. All registrations will be taken at the Anderson Recreation Center.
