RAIN DATE: DECEMBER 9, 2005
PARADE STARTS AT 6:00 PM

Time is flying by and before we know it we will be celebrating the end of another year, but your Lompoc Parks, Recreation & Urban Forestry Department won’t just stand by while time flies.

As we turn another page of the calendar we see that the December Holidays are just around the corner. The bustle has already begun to buy the perfect present or get the greatest deal. It is difficult to walk into any store and not see the signs of Christmas all around. To prepare for this festive time of year, the Lompoc Parks and Recreation Department has been working closely with the Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce to plan this year’s Children’s Holiday Parade. This parade is a favorite to many as we celebrate the community of Lompoc and the pride that shines through the participants and the spectators.

Applications for parade participation are currently available at the Anderson Recreation Center, 125 West Walnut Avenue, Lompoc City Hall, 100 Civic Center Plaza, and the Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce, 111 South “I” Street, or you can click here to access the application in pdf format and print it from home.

This year’s parade theme is “Winter Wonderland”. Organizations, businesses and youth groups are already hard at work designing an entry to “wow” the crowds that will line the parade route. The Parade will assemble at 4:30 pm at the intersection of Pine Avenue and “H” Street. Roll-out is planned for 6:00 pm with the parade proceeding south on “H” Street, turning west on Ocean Avenue, and south to “I” Streets. There are eight competing categories and three non-competing categories. Parade positions will be announced Wednesday, November 30 th . Completed entries, along with the appropriate entry fees should be submitted to the Lompoc Parks, Recreation & Urban Forestry Department (9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday) at the Anderson Recreation Center, 125 West Walnut Avenue, Lompoc, CA 93436-6749 by 5:00 pm, November 18th. For more information about the applications or the parade, contact our business office at 875-8100.

Immediately following the parade, the Lompoc Chamber of Commerce will host a reception in Centennial Square where we will announce the parade winners and watch as the Community Christmas Tree comes to life. There will be Christmas Caroling by the Girl Scouts of Tres Condados as well as opportunities to visit with Santa Claus.

For more information regarding any of these programs, contact the Lompoc Parks, Recreation & Urban Forestry Department at 875-8100 or stop by the Anderson Recreation Center at 125 West Walnut Avenue.
