MOTHER-SON LUAU

For over ten years, the Lompoc Parks and Recreation Department has offered the popular Father Daughter Sweetheart Dance every year in February. Although this program is extremely popular with the dads and daughters, the mothers and the sons were feeling a little left out. About four years ago, the Mother Son Luau was born and this event continues to grow each year. Once again, the time has come and it is right around the corner!

The Mother Son Luau is a time for the moms and their favorite young man to come together for a fun-filled night of dancing, games, goodies, pictures and more. This program is open to young men between the ages of 3 years old to 18 years old and their moms. Although we have those wonderful sons over the age of 18 that would like to bring their mom out for an eventful evening, we must enforce the age restrictions due to the limited ticket availability and popularity of the program.

This program is designed with the boys in mind. The Parks & Recreation Department realizes that most boys don’t like to dress up, so shorts and a t-shirt are just fine for this event. We do require that all participants MUST have shirts and shoes on, absolutely no bare feet allowed. We will play games like limbo; have hula-hoop contests, dance to the ever- popular chicken dance and much more!

Throughout the night you will hear those oldies but goodies, such as music from the Beach Boys as well as other tropical favorites. We will also play some modern music for the young ones, to enhance their fun-filled evening. Light refreshments will be served throughout the evening and professional pictures by Maria Vega Photography will be available for purchase at reasonable prices.

The Mother Son Luau Dance will be held on Friday, May 6 th at the Anderson Recreation Center, 125 West Walnut Avenue. The doors will open at 6:00 pm for pictures and the dance will begin promptly at 6:30 pm. Pictures will be available throughout the evening, but we open up a little early for those couples that would like to get pictures out of the way and save most of the evening for fun! The cost of the Mother Son Luau is $16.00 per couple and $6.00 for each additional child. Included in your ticket price are leis for the couple, a bag full of goodies for the young man, and a Polaroid picture of the couple in a keepsake folder. As mentioned, professional pictures are available at an affordable rate, especially set for Luau attendees. Novelty items will also be available for purchase and light refreshments are included.

Please join us for an evening to be remembered… for more information on this exciting event, please contact the Lompoc Parks & Recreation Department at 875-8100, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm or stop by to register at 125 West Walnut Avenue. Registrations can be taken over the phone with a VISA or MasterCard or in person with check, cash or money order. If you know someone that attended the Father Daughter Dance this year, but has not yet received their pictures, they are still available for pick up at the Anderson Recreation Center.
