River Bend Park is a 30+ acre park located in northeast Lompoc off of McLaughlin Road (which is an extension of "A" Street). This park lies adjacent to the Santa Ynez River which "bends" from a northern direction to a western direction at this location in the valley.
The current park features a regulation sized baseball field which is utilized by Lompoc Babe Ruth and adult baseball programs. The field has spectator areas, BBQ facilities, batting cages, and parking facilities. The field, constructed in 1992, was developed as a joint project between the City and Lompoc Babe Ruth.
The park is in its early development stages and proposed plans for the next stage of development include a number of multi-use athletic fields which will greatly assist the youth soccer, youth football, Little League baseball, and girl's softball programs.
River Bend Park originally consisted of 12.64 acres which was property purchased in 1975 using federal Housing and Urban Development funds. Park acreage grew when the City purchased an additional 17 acres of adjoining property from the Dezember family in 2000. In a process that took several years --- which included rescinding the former Cal Trans bypass through Lompoc --- the City also purchased additional park property from the State of California
