Athletics, Basketball and Bocce practices have begun. However, there is still time for new athletes to join these teams.

HARRY WOOD - AREA GAMES

On April 19, 2008, the annual track meet, Harry Wood - Area Games will occur at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Athletes must register in advance to compete in this event. The event will feature an Opening Ceremonies, Track & Field Events, Lunch by the Santa Maria Kiwanis Club, an Olympic Village with games and Special displays, a snack bar and souvenir shop hosted by the Lompoc Program volunteers and a Closing Ceremonies.

Special Olympics is the world's largest program of sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities: it currently serves more than 2.25 million persons with intellectual disabilities in more than 200 programs in more than 150 countries.

Northern Santa Barbara County Special Olympics offers training and competition in 14 different Olympic-type sports year-round specifically for athletes 8 years and older with intellectual disabilities. There is no charge to participate in Special Olympics.

Athletes attend weekly practices, compete at local and regional competitions, and participate in various special events throughout the year.

It’s easy to register as a Special Olympics Athlete. Athletes who wish to participate in Special Olympics must have a current Special Olympics Application for Participation & Release Form on file.   • Spring/Summer Season - Aquatics, Athletics, Basketball, Bocce, Golf and Tennis
  • Fall Season – Bowling, Football (Soccer), Powerlifting, Softball and Volleyball
  • Winter Season – Floor Hockey, Snowboarding and Snowshoeing
