We’ll start this month at the end of the new treatment process where there was much activity during April at the new Filter/Ultraviolet (FUV) disinfection building. Since the slab had been poured and finished, it was time to fly the three cloth media filters into place before the engineered metal building was erected around them. |
Once the filters were put in place, the internal support elements of the building could start to go up. |
Work was also completed on the FUV electrical room conduits and floor slabs. New motor control centers and other electrical equipment was placed in the room. The electrical room is separated from the rest of the equipment in the building by a masonry brick was that was completed in April. |

The location for the new 1500 kW diesel emergency engine/generator was excavated, compacted and the slab poured.
There was much progress in the new secondary clarifiers. The bottom fillets were poured on all three tanks and the supports for the effluent launderers were anchored into the walls. After all the supports were installed, the launderers were fit into place. These launderer troughs will convey the water out of the tanks and send it downstream to the next treatment process. |
Over at the Oxidation Ditches (ODs) the walkways running across the width and length of the tanks were formed up and poured. The stainless steel air line from the new blower building to the ODs was prepared and installed and the fine bubble diffuser equipment arrived on site for later installation. |
On the solids handling end of the process, work began to recontour the west sludge storage lagoon. This lagoon, and its twin to the east of it, will be lined with a heavy duty hypolon liner and have installed a new floating sludge dredge to remove the stored material for dewatering.
The Dissolved Air Floatation Thickeners (DAFTs) got their over-flow structures installed as well as their stairs. The odorous air from the head space of these DAFTs will be deodorized in three biofilters.
The slabs and walls of these filters were constructed.
The electrical building adjacent to the ODs had its wall pours completed and its roof panels installed. Before the roof on, the new motor control centers were lowered into the open building. |
Finally, much progress was made on the new Influent Pump Station (IPS). As the excavation reached its lower limit, ground water was hit, so the wet material had to be removed to prepare for the foundation work. A small excavator with lowered into the excavation to remove the mucky stuff. |

We didn’t get too much rain in April, but did have enough to make it slick enough for some trucks to get stuck. The construction contractor got them going again with a push.
Check back in June to see what happened in May.
