Lompoc (pronounced "Lom-poke") was originally settled by
the Chumash Indians who recognized the beauty of this region and made
it the heart of their society. Incorporated in 1888, Lompoc continues to offer its
citizens and visitors a quality of life that is the envy of many cities
throughout the nation. The small town atmosphere, balmy ocean breezes,
and rich cultural history are prime attractions to this beautiful
part of the world.
Centrally located between Los Angeles and San Francisco, Lompoc is
an ideal location for traveling the coast of California.
Tourist meccas include the Central Coast Wine Country, the historic
La Purisima Mission, pristine beaches, championship golf courses, the Central Coast Birding Trail, and much more. With more than forty professionally painted murals in our downtown area, Lompoc has been acknowledged as the "Most Successful Mural Community in California" by the California Mural Symposium. Other cultural attractions include the popular Lompoc Pops Orchestra, the Cypress Gallery sponsored by the Lompoc Valley Art Association, and the Lompoc Museum located in our historic Carnegie Library. Local theater groups, and music and choral societies offer entertainment throughout the year. Vandenberg
Air Force Base, home of the 14th Air Force ("Flying Tigers")
and the 30th Space Wing, recognized as the "best overall space
wing in Air Force Space Command," is located in the Lompoc Valley.
The Lompoc Valley has some of the richest agricultural land in the
nation producing a wide variety of crops. The Valley is also known
as a prolific flower seed and cut flower producing region. If you
happen to be traveling through Lompoc in June, we hope that you will take
advantage of the opportunity to tour our beautiful flower fields,
and help us celebrate Lompoc's annual Flower Festival.
Known for its "business-friendly" environment, Lompoc is
an attractive location for businesses and clean industry who seek
refuge from overbuilt urban areas. A variety of businesses and industries
have made Lompoc their home, and more are on the way. Unlike
many cities in California, Lompoc is not only business-friendly, but
affordable.
The greatest asset of the City of Lompoc is its citizens. The people who live
here are wonderful. Visitors will find our citizens to be extremely friendly
and helpful. You will find that Lompoc is a city without pretense, and that our welcome mat is always out to you.
