Skate Park Volunteer Recognized

Lompoc Parks & Recreation Commission

Elijah 'Eli' Jackson

On Wednesday, September 10, 2008 the Lompoc Parks and Recreation Commission recognized the actions of local Skate Park volunteer, Elijah 'Eli' Jackson.

Almost any morning before most skaters are out of bed, you can ride by the Lompoc Skate Park and witness appreciation at work. With his personal broom in hand, Elijah is a quiet, constant and dedicated volunteer at the Skate Park. Removing litter, sweeping the surface, assisting other patrons of the park and youth advocate, Eli sets an example for all.

The Parks, Recreation and Urban Forestry Department rely on Eli's suggestions for improving the park. His quite, productive nature inspire staff's commitment to the park. While not a culture that some understand, Elijah is an excellent example of the benefits of the Skate Park to Lompoc. Polite, respectful and dedicated, he goes about his work without the need for acknowledgement.

Department staff saw him diligently performing his self-appointed duties and approached him. Always a gentleman, Eli said he enjoys the Skate Park and wanted to do his part to keep it open for the patrons. He is a shining example of the hidden gems in our community and for Skate Park patrons.
