911 & Dispatch Center
Lompoc Police Dispatch is manned 24 hours a day, seven day a week by trained and certified dispatchers. Dispatchers receive incoming routine non-emergency calls and emergency 9-1-1 telephone calls. They then relay information to police officers or fire personnel, who respond to these calls.
Lompoc Police Dispatchers also coordinate inter-department and other city personnel to provide for the safety of all citizens. Examples of this include after hour callouts of the City Electric, Street, Water, Urban Forestry and other departments when they are needed.
Proper use of the 9-1-1 emergency phone number:
Please do not abuse the 9-1-1 emergency phone system, it is truly for emergencies. The non emergency number for the Lompoc Police Department is (805) 736-2341. Use your phone book or call directory information at 4-1-1 to obtain a non-emergency business number for other law enforcement agencies.
9-1-1 SHOULD NOT be used for the following:
- Asking "Was there just an earthquake?"
- Asking "Is the electric power out?"
- Asking "When will my cable TV be back on?"
- Reporting a crime that is not in progress, unless it just occurred and the suspect was seen fleeing.
You should teach your children how to use the emergency 9-1-1 number, stressing that it be used only for emergencies. Using an unplugged telephone, you can play the role of the 9-1-1 operator.
If you accidently dial 9-1-1, don't hang up! Stay on the line and tell the 9-1-1 operator that your call was an accident. If you dial and then hang up, the 9-1-1 operator will trace your call to determine if you have an actual emergency. Don't hang up!
