| Facts about the Lompoc Police Department's Exploring program: |
Explorer Post #700 was founded in May, 1971, by Police Officers Bud Trimble and Richard De Lung. The Explorer Post was developed as a means of getting young people interested in the law enforcement field and at the same time, improve communications between the Lompoc Police Department and city residents. |  |
 | Explorer Post members learn about law enforcement by direct participation. After receiving the necessary training, Explorers are allowed to ride on patrol with the police officers and see first hand what law enforcement is all about. |

Explorers participate in many fun and interesting police and civic activities that include the following:
- Crowd and traffic control.
- Lompoc High School/Cabrillo football games.
- Flower Festival and Christmas Parades.
- Explorer Ride-Along Program.
- Child Fingerprinting.
- AT&T Golf Pro-Am which is held in Pebble Beach, California.
- National Explorer Conference which is every two years in a different state.
- Concourse car show which is in Pebble Beach, California.
- Red Ribbon week.
- DARE graduations ceremonies.
- Police DUI Checkpoints, and many other activities.
