Gilda Cordova Appointed To Lompoc City Council
Gilda Cordova, a local hotel operator and the president of the board for Explore Lompoc, has been appointed to Lompoc City Council. Cordova has also served for the last four years as a member of the city's Economic Development Committee.
Ten applicants were seeking the vacant Lompoc City Council seat, having applied by the Jan. 3 deadline.
Lompoc City Council appointed Cordova to the position at the conclusion of a special meeting on Jan. 8 that included a ranked voting system for candidates.
Lompoc’s city council had a vacant seat following the Nov. 6, 2018 general election, which included the city’s first district election.
The vacancy for the council seat formerly occupied by Mayor Jenelle Osborne was an at-large appointment. The seat is not limited to Osborne’s district because she was elected at-large in the November 2016 General Election. Therefore, anyone who lives inside the city limits and is registered to vote was able to apply for the vacant seat.
Lompoc City Council decided at its Dec. 18 meeting on a ranked-voting system and interview process to fill the vacancy.
