Pedestrian And Bicycle Master Plan Survey Now In Spanish

Post Date:08/22/2019 2:43 PM

Community survey available through Sept. 30, 2019

LOMPOC, CA, Aug. 22, 2019 – The City of Lompoc Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan Survey is now available in Spanish, in addition to English.

The City of Lompoc has been seeking community input to develop a pedestrian and bicycle master plan.
The goals of this plan are to assess current conditions within the existing pedestrian and bicycle networks, identify priority needs, and scope and prioritize future improvements. Safety and safe routes to school are intended to be important elements of this plan.

As part of developing this master plan, Lompoc city staff is asking community members to complete a community survey and review maps and information posted on the City of Lompoc Engineering Division’s project webpage at: City of Lompoc Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan. To ensure input from community members who speak Spanish, a Spanish language version of the survey has been added to the site. The survey in both Spanish and English will be available through Sept. 30, 2019. Paper surveys are available by request. To date, the city has collected about 250 survey responses. Lompoc city staff appreciates the community’s input, and looks forward to more feedback.

This Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan's primary focus is along heavily-traveled school routes with high pedestrian and vehicle volumes, higher than average accidents, and higher vehicle speeds, and will prioritize safety improvements at those locations.
In addition, the master plan will serve as a useful tool of information for the public. Once completed, the plan can be used to assist with local education and outreach.

The pedestrian component of this master plan will identify and prioritize future projects in order to create a pedestrian network that encourages and facilitates walking. This plan will seek to improve pedestrian safety and access to popular destinations including schools, shopping centers, employment, public facilities, and parks by assessing needed safety improvements such as sidewalk gap closures and crossing improvements at locations with heavy pedestrian traffic.

The bicycle component of the plan will serve as an update to the previous 2008 Lompoc Bicycle Transportation Plan, and will assess the projects that have been implemented since. The bicycle component will also prioritize new and updated projects that focus on safety and convenience for high-demand routes.

City of Lompoc staff is working on this project together with Lompoc schools and the Lompoc Unified School District, Allan Hancock College’s Lompoc campus, the local business community, Santa Barbara County Association of Governments (SBCAG) staff, Healthy Lompoc Coalition, Santa Barbara County Public Health Department, the United Boys & Girls Clubs of Lompoc, Santa Barbara County Public Works, California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), members of other partnering organizations, and community members in support of walking and biking.
