Lompoc City Council Votes To Put Sales Tax On Ballot

Post Date:08/23/2019 5:24 PM
One-percent general sales tax increase option will appear in March 2020 election

LOMPOC, CA, Aug. 23, 2019 – Lompoc City Council voted 5-0 during Thursday night’s special meeting to put the option of a 1-percent general sales tax increase on the March 2020 primary election ballot.

The approval of more than 50 percent of voters will be required to raise Lompoc’s sales tax rate from 7.75 percent to 8.75 percent. The one-percent sales tax is expected to generate $4.9 million annually. Lompoc City Council stipulated that the tax would end after 15 years.

Thursday’s meeting also included a presentation on the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), and its $93 million in unfunded liabilities that have put cities across the state, including Lompoc, in a difficult financial situation.

Video of the special meeting, along with other Lompoc City Council meetings, is available at: Lompoc City Council Meeting Videos.
