Library and California Poets in the Schools collaborate in hosting an eight-week slam poetry-writing experience

LOMPOC, CA, Oct. 1, 2019 – The Lompoc Public Library, in conjunction with California Poets in the Schools (Cal Poets) of Northern Santa Barbara County, is excited to present an eight-week workshop series, “Find Your Light: Slam Poetry Experience” for teens in grades 7-12.

The workshop series will be held every Saturday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Grossman Gallery, 501 E. North Ave., running Oct. 5 through Nov. 23. “Find Your Light,” taught by poet-teacher Michelle Pittenger, calls for teens to come claim their own voice. Storytelling is the central theme of the workshop series, and teens will have a chance to write and polish their own performance poetry in response to the world around them.

The workshop will culminate in a poetry slam at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23 in the Grossman Gallery. Prizes will be awarded for top poems as determined by a panel of judges, and the public is invited to the performance.

Attendance at all sessions is not required but is strongly encouraged. Registration is not necessary.

Members of the public with questions on the program are asked to call the Lompoc Library at 805-875-8781.
