Former Lompoc Mayor Eugene Stevens Dies
Stevens founded the Lompoc Mural Society
LOMPOC, CA, Jan. 10, 2020 – Eugene Stevens, who served three terms as mayor of Lompoc in the 70s and 80s and founded the Lompoc Mural Society, died Jan. 5 on his 91st birthday.
Stevens was living in Banning, California at the time of his death.
His service on Lompoc City Council spanned more than 15 years, from April 1970 to Nov. 1982, and again from Nov. 1986 to July 1989.
Stevens was dedicated to city beautification programs and promoting tourism, and served as administrator of the Lompoc Mural Society for 25 years after establishing the organization in 1988.
Volunteering his time to better the Lompoc Valley in numerous ways, Stevens was named Lompoc’s “Man of the Century” in the year 2000.
His family said of Stevens in his obituary, “He was an energetic, happy man who loved life and lived it to its fullest, loved his family and friends and was a dedicated supporter of the community of Lompoc. He will be missed.”
In his memory, his family suggests a donation to the Lompoc Mural Society or other favorite charity, or performing an act of kindness.
