Be advised, effective January 1, 2026, all projects must be designed per 2025 California Building Codes. Existing projects may continue with old codes, however forward progress must be continuous to stay valid.

The Building Division will partner with the construction industry and property owners to promote safety in the built environment by ensuring all private development is built to City standards.

1. What are your hours, and what's the best way to contact the building division?

The building division is available by appointment Monday through Thursday from 9AM to 4:30PM. We recommend that you reach out to us by using the general email, and one of us will respond as soon as possible. 

While you can always contact us by phone, we can not guarantee that staff will be available at all times as we may be at the counter or assisting another customer. 

2. How do I submit for a building permit, obtain a building permit over-the-counter, or re-submit corrected plans?

We have recently converted to digital only submittals for all permit applications. Please click here to be taken to our customer self-service website. Any questions regarding the online permit application process can be directed to Mari Drew via email at m_drew@ci.lompoc.ca.us.

3. How do I find out the status of a permit or an ongoing project?

You are welcome to contact us directly at our phone number or email address listed throughout the webpage. Additionally, you can always log in to view the current status of your permit using our customer self-service portal.

 4. How do I schedule field inspections?

If you’d like to schedule an inspection, please dial our inspection request phone line at (805) 875-8231. Building inspections are performed on a daily basis.  We do not currently accept inspection requests via email or via the internet.

Please be sure to have your stamped approved plans available for the inspector. If they are not available, there will be no inspection.
