Permit Ready Accessory Dwelling Unit (PRADU) Program
WHAT IS AN ADU? WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
- ADU: Accessory Dwelling Unit
- Per Government Code Section 65852.2, an ADU refers to an attached or a detached residential dwelling unit that provides complete independent living facilities for one or more persons and is located on a lot with a proposed or existing primary residence.
- ADUs offer many benefits, including:
- Affordable housing construction: because ADUs do not require paying for land or major new infrastructure
- A source of income for homeowners
- Living space capacity comparable to newly built condos and apartments
- Increased proximity to extended family, including aging parents
- For additional information regarding ADUs, please visit the California Department of Housing and Community Development
WHAT IS THE PROGRAM?
- The City of Lompoc intends to further facilitate Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) construction by developing a Permit Ready Accessory Dwelling Unit (PRADU) program, as required by the 2023-2031 General Plan Housing Element Update Implementation Program H-A.14.
- The PRADU program will provide four (4) permit ready ADU plan options to residents interested in constructing an ADU on their property.
- The PRADU program expedites permitting and construction of ADUs, thereby resulting in additional much-needed housing units in areas already planned for growth.
- Implementation of the PRADU program also ensures compliance with state Assembly Bill 1332, which requires jurisdictions to develop preapproval programs for ADUs and create 30-day streamlined approval processes for the preapproved ADUs.

- Following Council discussion, next steps will be provided to the public via the City's social media channels, the City's website, and various community outreach events.
