If you have a family you need to prepare your family for an emergency. Children need to be prepared for a potential disaster along with their parents. Prepare your children and take the necessary steps to prepare the environment at home. Contact your children's school or day care providers and be sure that you are aware of their emergency plans. Be sure they have your current contact information. Be sure to involve your children in your emergency planning. Have them add a toy or game to the disaster kit.
The elderly and physically challenged are especially vulnerable during a disaster. They may have special needs that need to be addressed. Take time and plan ahead for their special needs or requirements in the event of an emergency situation.
If you ever are having a difficult time thinking of a gift for someone, put together a disaster kit together for them. It's a great way to show that you care!
Finally, If you evacuate your home, leave a message at your home telling family members and others where you can be found.
