Here's a list of free online homework help resources. It includes math, reading, science, geography, history, art and music.  Some resources are in Spanish and are noted as such.

Overall Education Sites  - Educación

Khan Academy is a free resource for K-12 students, teachers, and parents. They offer exercises, quizzes, and tests, as well as videos in many subjects to help students learn. covers Preschool to 5th grade with Art, Language, Reading & Writing, Math, Social Studies and Science. The Math and Reading game selections are particularly strong.

Annenberg Learner by the Annenberg Foundation - includes Art, Languages, History, Social Studies, Math, Science and more- search by subject and grade level.

Scholastic has free classroom lesson plans for a number of subjects. They are organized by grade level going from Preschool to 8th grade. Resources include printables, games, vocabulary lists, book discussion guides and more.

Math - Matemáticas has online help, games, message boards from Kindergarten to Pre-calculus.'s math games from Preschool to 5th grade are easy to use and navigate. My favorite is the Addition Pizza Party for preschoolers.


Reading - Leyendo's reading games are from preschool to 5th grade feature a subject guide so you can choose by early literacy concepts, spelling, grammar and reading comprehension. Books & Authors offers lesson plans, book lists, activities, booktalks, discussion guides, author interviews, vocab lists and other resources.

International Children's Digital Library includes online access to books from all over the world. (En español)

JLG@Home a service from the Junior Library Guild. They are allowing free access to their books online as well as on-demand webcasts of author interviews, book talks and more. Reading levels include elementary, middle and high school.  

Science - Ciencias

NASA's STEM for Students site - games, experiments, videos, lessons, printables, puzzles and mobile apps. (En español) NASA Recursos en Español de Investigación y Tecnología Science Buddies is a non-profit site for K-12 students, parents to quickly and easily find free project ideas and help in all areas of science from physics to food science and music to microbiology. 

The Exploratorium is a public learning laboratory exploring the world through science, art, and human perception. Their site offers extensive science (and other subjects) activities, videos, games and apps. 

OLogy! is a science website for kids from the American Museum of Natural History. Fun interface and the content focuses on natural history some of the subjects covered are genetics, zoology, biodiversity, astronomy and much more. Science Lessons and Tools for K-12.  This site is a project of the American Association for the Advancement of Science's Outer Space - archive of historical and vintage space resources. All ages.

Geography - Geografía

National Geographic Society's Education portal lets users search by type of resource, grade level (Pre-K-12) and subject. is a no-frills website that gives easy access to all kinds of facts. All ages.

History - Historia

Smithsonian Museum's History Explorer - for students and educators - search by subject, grade level and more.

National WWII Museum has a searchable database that allows users to search by subject and type of media. For older students.

Art - Arte is the online home of Los Angeles' Getty Museum. Kids can explore art concepts, try out new ideas, watch videos and play games. They also have a list of lesson plans organized by grade level.

Google's Arts & Culture site allows you be an armchair museum-goer and virtually visit art museums all over the world.  If you click on the left-hand side navigation - three dashes in the left-hand corner of your screen - it will open up a universe of ways to explore art.

Music - Música is from Cincinnati Public Radio and has music games, activities including composing your own music, lesson plans, podcasts, blog, composer biographies and more. Also on the site is a letter to parents  from the educational outreach coordinator for Cincinnati Public Radio which offers advice along with other music resources.

Dallas Symphony Orchestra Kids offers a wealth of resources including activities like make your own instrument, videos on the building blocks of music and lesson plans.
